How much chlorine should be added to a 50,000-liter pool?

For routine maintenance, the dose of granulated chlorine is about 150–200 g per 50,000 liters when the free chlorine level is below 1 ppm. For an initial shock or to recover green water, the dose increases to 400–600 g per 50,000 liters. Always measure before dosing: the correct dose depends on the current level, not just the volume.

How often should the sand filter be cleaned?

Backwashing the sand filter should be done every 7–15 days in high season, or when the pressure gauge rises between 0.5 and 1 bar above the normal working pressure. Doing it too frequently does not improve filtration: the sand filters better when it has some biological load. Replace the sand completely every 5–7 years.

Why does the water become cloudy after rain?

Rain carries dust, soil, and organic matter into the water, and dilutes the active chlorine. Additionally, rainwater is usually slightly acidic, which lowers the pH. The combination — less chlorine + more organic matter + low pH — favors cloudiness. Solution: measure parameters after any heavy rain, correct the pH, and perform a shock treatment if the free chlorine level has dropped below 0.5 ppm.

When should the pool water be completely changed?

With proper maintenance, it should not be necessary to drain the pool every year. The real indicator is the cyanuric acid level: when it exceeds 100 ppm, the chlorine loses its disinfectant effectiveness, and the only solution is to replace part of the water. This usually happens every 3–5 years in well-maintained pools. Draining unnecessarily is a waste of water and of the accumulated treatments.

How many hours per day should the filter pump run?

In summer, the basic rule is to divide the water temperature by two to get the minimum filtration hours. At 28°C → 14 hours/day. In extreme heat waves, filter 16–18 hours. In spring and autumn, with water at 18–20°C, 8–10 hours are sufficient.
