The Shaver Brown is a laying hybrid developed by Shaver Poultry Breeding Farms in Ontario, Canada, a company founded in the 1950s. Although less known in Spain than the Isa Brown or the Loh, it is widely used in North America and Latin America, and is gaining presence in the European market.
Competitive production
Between 300 and 320 eggs per year under optimal conditions. Very similar to the Isa Brown in quantity but with differences in egg quality: the Shaver tends to produce eggs that are somewhat more uniform in size and color.
Heat tolerance: its key advantage
It was also developed for the warm and humid climates of South America and the Caribbean, so it tolerates thermal stress better than most European hybrids. In summer, where the Isa Brown or the Lohmann may significantly reduce laying, the Shaver maintains better performance.
Feed conversion
It has one of the best feed conversion ratios among laying hybrids: it consumes less to produce the same. In the long run, this means real savings in feed costs.
Temperament
Docile and calm. Very similar in temperament to the Isa Brown. It is easy to handle and does not cause problems in the flock.
